Male, Maldives (CU)_ The Maldives has been honored with the “Best Island in Asia” award by Travel and Leisure’s 2022 World’s Best Awards. The Travel and Leisure 2022 World’s Best Awards ceremony was hosted at Dante Seaport in New York City, United States. During the award ceremony, Thilmeez Hussein, Ambassador to the United States of America and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, accepted the award on behalf of the Maldives.
Thoyyib Mohamed, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), expressed pride over the huge success. He stated that it is always a source of pride for the entire destination to receive such a global recognition. According to Thoyyib, all accolades received by the country are an honor for the whole nation. He attributed the success to the hard work, devotion, and commitment of the government, state agencies, tourist industry players, and local and international partners.
According to Thoyyib, the work required to promote the destination and to welcome a large number of tourists to the country requires continuous and collaborative efforts. Moreover, Thoyyib promised that Maldives, as a top tourist destination, would continue to develop methods to remain ahead of the competitors, ensuring that the country always provides the finest services to the tourists.
The Travel and Leisure Global Vision Awards seek to discover and recognize businesses, individuals, destinations, and organizations who are making advances to promote more sustainable and responsible travel plans, practices, and experiences. This year, Maldives has received four prestigious awards. They are, Most Preferred Tourist Destination 2021; Best Marketing Initiative of the year for the “Redefining MICE” campaign at Global MICE Congress and Awards 2022; Best Stand Design and Decoration at OTM, Mumbai; and Best Stand Feature at WTM Africa 2022.
