Manipal Hospitals inaugurates a Breast Care Clinic on world cancer day

Hyderabad, India (CU)_ According to the statistics, in India, for every 13 minutes, one woman dies of breast cancer, making it the most prevalent type of cancer in women. Hence, there is a major need for early detection of breast cancer. Accordingly, during the occasion of World Cancer Day, Manipal Hospitals at Sarjapur, inaugurated a Breast Clinic to facilitate early detection and screening for breast cancer, as well as to provide support for breast cancer treatment.

Globally, breast cancer is the most prevalent type of cancer in women. Indeed, it accounts for approximately 25% of all cancers in females. The major causes for breast cancer in India are urbanization, obesity, alcohol intake, a sedentary lifestyle, delayed childbirth, and short lactation periods that are becoming more prevalent nowadays, resulting in an increase in breast cancer prevalence.

Dr. Baswanth Rao, Consultant Medical Oncology, Manipal Comprehensive Cancer Care Center, Sarjapur Bengaluru, spoke about the breast cancer at the launch of the clinic. He said, “Breast cancer is the most common cancer in Indian women. However, there are so many fears and myths surrounding cancer that the patient is immediately thrown into a whirlwind of doctor visits, tests and medications. However, helping the patient to understand the condition of the disease, to be informed about the different treatment options, is crucial and receive support to cope with the situation and care coordinated with doctors to ensure they are receiving the best medical care possible. The Breast Clinic strives to go beyond just helping patients receive the quality care and treatment they need but also to encourage other customers to come for regular check-ups or consultations that enable early detection.”
