Announcing its dates for their highly awaited Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka, it was made known that the 7th and 11th of October 2026 would be the official dates on which the show will be held in Colombo. This event marks a very important milestone for this small island, as its flourishing sense of fashion is on the rise, as it is launching itself on the global creative calendar. Cinnamon Life at City of Dreams in Colombo is yet again, without fail, set to host the five-day event. Bringing together the local as well as international community, this event, without a doubt as always, will surely showcase the South Asian creativity proudly to the worldwide nations.

Organized by the Academy of Design (AOD) and powered by DIMO, the authorized agent for Mercedes-Benz in Sri Lanka, MBFWSL has grown into much more than a fashion week; it has become a cultural platform that celebrates innovation, craftsmanship, and forward-thinking design. The event’s theme, which is “Welcoming the World Home,” reflects the ambition to position Sri Lanka as a dynamic crossroads where global fashion meets unique South Asian design intelligence. By linking Colombo to Mercedes-Benz’s global fashion map, the event provides local designers with opportunities for visibility, collaboration, and entry into leading international markets.

In addition to runway presentations, the 2026 edition promises a rich program of events that celebrate the future of fashion. Conversations on sustainability, craft heritage, and creative exchange will run alongside curated collections from both established and emerging designers. Sustainability and craftsmanship remain central, as Sri Lanka’s fashion community continues to champion responsible design practices rooted in cultural identity.

The location at Cinnamon Life, which is Colombo’s newest integrated lifestyle destination, highlights the event’s ambition to mix world-class infrastructure with the city’s cultural richness. As Colombo grows its luxury and design landscape, MBFWSL’s return later this year further solidifies the city’s status as an appealing destination for fashion industry leaders, buyers, media, and trendsetters.

Sri Lanka’s fashion narrative has been gaining momentum on both local and international stages. Last year, the 2025 edition of MBFWSL celebrated the evolving South Asian voice in global fashion, blending innovation with cultural heritage and intelligent luxury. Notably, the platform has also helped launch designers into wider markets, as Sri Lankan talent increasingly shines on international runways.

The newly emerging designers have been the main focus in the past variations of this event. As an example, events such as the second day of the 2025 show highlighting new talent were among the main identified events where this could be seen. These opportunities continue to confirm that MBFWSL (Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Sri Lanka) is not just a show of style or taste, but it serves as a launching pad where creative talent can be seen despite your background or upbringing.

Insiders who are involved in the industry note that events such as MBFWSL tend to largely contribute to strengthening Sri Lanka’s identity in fashion. Especially in a time where creativity, craftsmanship, and cultural expression are at the main center of global trends. By bringing the people’s attention, both international and local, to the local designs, the Fashion Week helps to make sure to nurture a new beginning where both innovation and heritage coexist with one another.

And while everyone eagerly waits until the beginning of October, designers, buyers, fashion experts, and enthusiasts throughout the world will be making sure to keep their eyes locked on Colombo, a city waiting to welcome the world to Sri Lanka’s most prestigious and fashion-celebrated event thus far.

Sri Lanka is waiting to make its statement and mark its footsteps in the fashion world, and October, will definitely act as the steppingstone, as one could mention.
