SYDNEY (CU)_Australia is once again experiencing a resurgence in COVID-19 infections which has prompted new lockdowns in Victoria, New South Wales and South Australia. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people are finding it difficult to make ends meet, since most of them are ineligible for the federal government’s Coronavirus Disaster Payments owing to the fact that they already receive some form of welfare payment.
According to a recent report issued by the Australian Council of Social Services (ACOSS), more than one million Australians who are under lockdown have excluded from the emergency financial aid even if the restrictions have cost them work. Of this figure, an estimated 400,000 people are from greater Sydney, while half of them are facing the risk of homelessness.
Although the one-off lump sum of $500 applies to any area in the country which has been declared a Coronavirus hotspot and is in lockdown for more than seven days, however, there are several other hurdles which one must have to get past in order to qualify…
