Multiple centurions in one game

The Indian Premier League match between Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Saturday was just the seventh time that multiple centurions have occurred in a single game.

Jos Buttler of RR and Virat Kohli of RCB both made hundreds in Jaipur, making history as the third time players from both sides have achieved this feat in an IPL match, following Kohli and Heinrich Klaasen of SRH and Kohli and Shubman Gill of GT in IPL 2023. On Saturday, Buttler blasted an unbeaten hundred off 58 balls in the second innings to win the match for his team after Kohli made 113 not out in 71 balls in the first.

Multiple hundreds

1) Virat Kohli (109) and AB de Villiers (129) for the 2016 RCB match against the Gujarat Lions

2) In  2019,  match between SRH and Royal Challengers Bangalore, David Warner (100) and Jonny Bairstow (114).

3) In 2023, Virat Kohli (100) for the RCB and Heinrich Klaasen (104) for the SRH

4) In 2023, Shubman Gill (104) for GT and Virat Kohli (101) for RCB

5) In 2024, Jos Buttler (100) will play for RR and Virat Kohli (113) for RCB.

At the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by six wickets to record their fourth straight victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Jos Buttler, meantime, returned to form with a brilliant century.

In his 100th IPL encounter, England’s Buttler struck his century with a six when Rajasthan needed one to win their chase of 184, with five balls remaining in the Jaipur match. After surviving the initial storm, Buttler executed the offensive move flawlessly, scoring precisely 100 runs in 58 balls with nine fours and four sixes.

After scoring 35 runs in his previous three games, Buttler found his form. He and captain Sanju Samson put up 148 runs for the second wicket, with Samson making 69. Buttler spoke of his winning smash over the deep mid-wicket fence, “Had a little bit of luck, didn’t time it well, just got over the rope, delighted with the win.”

No matter how long you’ve played the game, those tensions and worries persist. The mind is a powerful tool; all you need to do is persevere, work hard, and sometimes good fortune will find you. After his game-winning performance, Buttler was named player of the match, giving him the record for most IPL player of the matches for the Rajasthan Royals.

At Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s Virat Kohli achieved the triple-figure mark against Rajasthan Royals, becoming the first centurion of the IPL 2024 season. IPL 2024 needed 19 games to produce its first century. Shubman Gill’s 89 was the highest individual score of the season prior to today.

In 67 balls, Kohli scored his seventh IPL century. Kohli improves his record for the most IPL hundreds with this century. With 316 runs in five innings with a strike rate of over 146 and an average of 105.33, the great Indian hitter is presently atop the orange cap rankings.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lost their fourth match of the IPL 2024 on April 6, making them the first team to do so. Additionally, this was their third straight defeat. RCB has two points from five games and is now ranked eighth. They have a -0.843 Net Run Rate (NRR).

Having reached his eighth century in the Indian Premier League, Virat Kohli was awarded the Orange Cap. But Bengaluru’s 183/3 in 20 overs was insufficient to halt Rajasthan Royals (RR) at home, thus his undefeated 113 went in vain. After KL Rahul, Jos Buttler became the second player in IPL history to make a century in his 100th game.

Online users have begun responding to RCB’s demise. Bengaluru has never been able to win the trophy, even with a team full of stars in every IPL season. They altered their shirt and logo once again this time. Nevertheless, supporters bemoan the fact that they continue to perform the same on the field.

Netizens chastised Kohli for his sluggish rate of scoring. The slowest century in IPL history was achieved by the RCB batsman in 67 deliveries. They used Buttler as an example, who performed it while playing with 58 balls in “T20 style.”
