Muttiah Muralitharan hospitalized!

Chennai, India (CU)_ The Sri Lankan cricket legend Muttiah Muralitharan is part of the Sunrisers Hyderabad team. According to media, SRH officials reported that Muralitharan had a health check-up after doctors recommended it. Following the tests, the 49-year-old cricketer, who is the coach of the David Warner-led Sunrisers, took treatment in a Chennai hospital, where he was admitted for heart care. According to news sources, the Sri Lankan cricket legend is recovering well after having an angioplasty on Sunday in Chennai.

According to the media, “the legendary off-spinner had a stent fitted to unblock an artery, and will rejoin Sunrisers Hyderabad when discharged”. The CEO of Sunrisers, Shanmuganathan in an interview to the media said that the Chennai doctors recommended Muralitharan to have a stent placed for extra care and that after treatment, he is doing fine. He said, “He had consulted doctors in Sri Lanka over blockage in his heart before coming for the IPL. He was initially told there was no need for any stents but at the Apollo hospital here in Chennai, he was advised angioplasty. He immediately got it done. He is very much fine and he should be back in the ground in a few days”.

Thus far, Muralitharan has taken 1347 wickets, and the 49-year-old bowler is the top wicket-taker in international cricket. With 800 Test wickets, Muralitharan holds the record for most Test wickets. Muralitharan played 133 Tests, 350 ODIs, and 12 T20 Internationals for Sri Lanka. Though he took 800 wickets in Test cricket, he also took 534 wickets in ODIs and 13 wickets in T20 cricket. In 1996 World Cup, he was also a member of Sri Lanka’s ODI World Cup victory.

Since 2015, he has served as the bowling coach and mentor for Sunrisers Hyderabad. The Sunrisers Hyderabad have had the worst start to an IPL season in history, having lost three games in a row. This season, SRH is the only team that is yet to start their game. On Saturday, Muralitharan turned 49 years old.
