Nauru Airlines seeks to connect the North and South Pacific

-

NAURU (Commonwealth Union)_The Australian government is supporting biweekly flights on Nauru Airlines to help connect the North and South Pacific, in part thanks to the advocacy work done on behalf of David W. Panuelo, president of the Federated States of Micronesia, and the other participants in the Micronesian Presidents’ Summit.

The maiden Australia-North Pacific Connector arrived in Pohnpei and departed on Monday, October 17, at 11:50 a.m. The twice-weekly flight departs from Brisbane, Australia and flies to Pohnpei, in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Tarawa, in the Republic of Kiribati, and Majuro, in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. One can take a separate aircraft from Nauru to Fiji if they want to travel to the Republic of Fiji or other South Pacific islands via Fiji.

Asterio Appi, the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Nauru, Reagan Aliklik, the Deputy Minister for Information and Communications of Nauru, Geoff Bowmaker, the vice chair of Nauru Airlines, and Robert Eoe, the company’s CEO, were among the passengers on the inaugural flight.

Prior to the departure of the Nauru delegation, Kandhi Elieisar, the FSM’s secretary of foreign affairs, and acting Transportation Secretary Thomas Kostka met with the country’s Deputy Minister, Appi, to discuss a number of bilateral issues and to express their appreciation for Nauru Airlines’ return to the FSM.

The summer vacation season in Australia and New Zealand is quickly coming, and now is the perfect time for the Island Hopper to emerge from hibernation. Beginning on October 23, Nauru Airlines will resume a monthly flight to Nadi International Airport (NAN) in Fiji. Nauruans will be able to travel and work around the area, according to CEO Robert Eoe, if services are expanded to the Central and Northern Pacific.

“Our mission is to connect the islands, unify the Pacific Community, and bring people together,” he said. “On all of our routes, we strive to increase the accessibility of our Central Pacific services and deliver top-notch customer care. Passengers will be warmly welcomed by our personnel and handlers at the distinctive ports we serve.”

Nauru Airlines is providing 20% off the economy cost for reservations made up until December in an effort to entice residents, visitors, and aviation enthusiasts to come and discover the Pacific. When booking, passengers must enter the promo code HOPPER to receive the discount.
