He said, “This is very important for us at the NBA to be able to access quality healthcare and we see the NHIS as one channel to achieve this. So we have started with 1000 of our members. It is just the beginning, we have over 100,000 members across the country”.
According to Akpata, the NBA is pleased with the collaboration agreement with the NHIS, and he said that the MoU will secure the program’s long-term viability. Sambo lauded the agreement with the NBA as a watershed moment for the NHIS, which has been pushing more Nigerians to sign up for the health plan. He said, “The event of today is very significant in that our drive towards attaining universal health coverage is gaining momentum”.
According to Sambo, the creation of the GIFSHIP insurance platform was intended to allow anyone to join the health insurance program regardless of their occupations. According to him, customers can register for the health plan online from the comfort of their own homes, with the implementation of the ICT infrastructure.
Following the ceremony, the Executive Secretary addressed the media. According to him, the federal executive council has endorsed a proposal made by the NHIS management to start a huge infrastructure development at all of its branches across the country and to implement the information and communication technology devices that will become automated in the coming months.
