Need for stringent vetting for teachers

Cape Town, South Africa (CWBN)_ The National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa, announced that two women, Nonjabulo Buhle Mabuza and Sibongile Rose Khuzwayo were convicted for having been posing as teachers in Mpumalanga for about eleven years.

They have been given suspended sentence of 5 years in prison, and the state prosecutor has effectively ceased their pension funds valued SAR 600,000 (USD 39,400) each.

Mabuza who was employed at Seme Secondary School in Daggakraal, Gert Sibande, having acquired the position by producing a fake degree, while Khuzwayo was employed at the Hambani Primary School in the same region, producing a matric certificate (secondary school diploma) of a deceased person.

The duo were caught in 2017, having raised suspicions after they resigned from their positions after they were requested to resubmit their academic credentials to the Mpumalanga Department of Education.

The local authorities have been heavily criticized for taking eleven years to identify and convict the fraudsters.
