New Miss Universe Singapore fights against human trafficking in Thailand

Singapore (Commonwealth Union)_ Priyanka Annuncia, 26, Entrepreneur and personal trainer, was crowned Miss Universe Singapore 2023 by Miss Universe Singapore 2020, Bernadette Belle, at the Amber Lounge in Millenia Walk. She is a graduate from Murdoch University with a double major in business law and criminology. Priyanka succeeds last year’s winner Carissa Yap. The first runner-up was Nikita Carter.

Prior to her crowning moment, Priyanka posted on Instagram: “Tonight is the night.” She said she was filled with a mix of emotions, mostly excitement and nerves and thanked everyone saying that she had not felt like this in a long time. She said, “Now let’s go have a blast.” Priyanka also thanked the organizers after her victory, saying, “This prestigious platform will enable me to impact many more lives”.

Her Instagram post read: “To my fellow MUSG (Miss Universe Singapore) and MUA (Miss Universe Australia)”. She said that these ladies were legends in their own league and that she was honored to have journeyed alongside them and created such meaningful memories that will be etched in her heart.

She said, “To my family, friends and supporters, we did it, we did not give up! Indeed the human spirit carries within itself the life and strength to scaIe heights”. She further continued that this journey was made easier because of their love, support and encouragement. She added that this is what she will take with her throughout the next phase of this journey.

According to her Instagram post, she has now ventured into making a difference in the legal justice system specifically in the field of human trafficking. She went on to say that Thailand has been a hot spot for trafficking crimes, and till this day, it happens to a great extent. Priyanka added that with her background in private investigations, she has honed her skills for 3 years and now leads rescue missions, investigations, and reintegration programs for victims.

She further added that when she was not fighting crime or coaching, she could be found running her clothing line that was started four years ago. She believes that making a difference is not a cliche but a manifestation of a belief system.

Her clothing line is called Bodsitive, which was started in 2019. Priyanka who was a one-time boxing instructor is also a public speaking coach.

She will represent Singapore in the international Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador on Nov 18.
