Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – A new report by the Campaign for Common Sense has revealed that BBC programmes contained content which most people in Britain found unrecognizable.

East Enders a long running British soap opera which airs on the BBC, Saw Brexit likened to the Covid19 pandemic, where a character on the show throws water in the face of another lady and says “We’ve had Brexit and Covid, we don’t need you here.” The report also indicated that other tv shows aired on the BBC often had a similar bias narrative.

Accusations of bias from the BBC is however not new, where several groups have protested outside the BBC for what they felt were extreme bias by the broadcaster to push a certain agenda and demonize those who did not hold a certain view.

The report from the Campaign for Common Sense had given an overall picture where it indicated that although there were certain impartial aspects to the BBC, there policies, people, and productions, significant elements had moved away from the mission which was to inform, educate, and entertain, and had switched into the realm of advocacy and partiality.

The BBC gets most of its funding from a license fee of £157.50, which is charged annually where many campaigners have urged the public to stop paying the license fee. The BBC license fee has also in the spotlight within the British government with some MPs stating that the license fee should remain and other MPs stating that the BBC should fund itself either by a subscription or an advertising model as linear media is becoming more and more irrelevant particularly among the younger generation with a heavy shift towards digital media.  The organization ‘Defund the BBC’ has long campaigned against license fee, providing guidance for those choosing to cancel the BBC license.
