Pakistan (Commonwealth Union)_ Pakistan recently declared that it would nominate former US President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, citing that he helped stop a huge war between Pakistan and India in May 2025 following the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindhoor. According to the Pakistani government, Trump showed strong leadership and played a major role in ending the conflict. They believe he helped avoid a dangerous war between the two South Asian nations, both of which have nuclear weapons. As per the post on the official government handle, Pakistan thanked Trump for mediating at the right time. They affirmed that his advice led to a ceasefire between India and Pakistan, without which they claimed that things could have gone much worse.

Furthermore, Trump has already declared several times that he helped bring peace between the two countries after tensions rose due to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. However, India denied that Trump mediated for the truce. The Indian government reaffirmed that the dialogue with Pakistan was mutual and not with US mediation. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi even told Trump in a recent call that no external force was involved in ending the conflict. However, Pakistan disagreed with India’s stance. They highlighted that Trump took the lead by advising both sides during a dangerous moment. According to Pakistan, Trump’s actions helped cool down the situation.

The Pakistani government stated that the trouble started when India crossed into Pakistani territory without reason and caused civilian deaths. In return, Pakistan launched an operation called “Bunyan-un-Marsoos” or “Measured and precise military response,” saying it was meant to defend the country without hurting many civilians. As the situation worsened, Pakistan asserted that Trump quietly intervened to restore calm. They praised him for trying to keep peace in South Asia and for offering to help with the long-running Kashmir issue. Pakistan also came forward to nominate Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for leadership in the India-Pakistan ceasefire.

However, things changed overnight. Just one day later, Pakistan completely changed its stance. On Sunday, the country strongly condemned Trump after he ordered attacks on Iran. Pakistan stated that bombing Iran was wrong and against international rules. They stated that peace can only come through talks, not violence. In a statement, the Foreign Ministry revealed that the US strikes on Iran made things much worse and could spread the conflict across the region. They warned that this kind of action would hurt not just the Middle East but many other countries too.

Later the same day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and expressed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of the US attacks. He repeated that the only way forward was through peaceful discussion. Meanwhile, people in Pakistan also protested the US strikes. They marched on a huge American flag with Trump’s picture on it. Protesters shouted slogans against America, Israel, and India. Just the day before, Pakistan had called Trump a “true peacemaker.” Now, they are publicly protesting against him. However, when asked about the sudden change in tone, Pakistan’s government did not respond.
