Jitendra Singh, Minister of Science and Technology, delivered his speech at the Department of Biotechnology’s 36th foundation day celebration. He said that numerous other scientists were also eager to return to the nation to take advantage of the country’s research prospects and job opportunities.
The Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship is a popular initiative administered by the Department of Biotechnology. It was started in 2006-2007 with the goal of relocating the Indian scientists who are currently working overseas. According to a senior official, 300 of the 550 scientists who applied for the fellowship have been accepted into the country’s research and technology institutes.

Singh stated that as a result of the massive support gained from both the public and commercial sectors, the biotechnology industry has developed rapidly, making India one of the world’s top 12 biotechnology destinations. Additionally, the minister unveiled “New Guidelines for Ease of Doing Science; Towards Less Government and More Governance” and a directory for Ramalingaswami Re-entry fellows.
According to Singh, the Department of Biotechnology has created 15 autonomous institutes based on certain themes throughout the country. Additionally, one international institution, namely New Delhi Center of the International Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, and two public sector enterprises, namely BIBCOL and BIRAC, have been created for the purpose of manufacturing biologicals and promoting and developing the startup innovation ecosystem.
