Pakistan PM Imran Khan visits Sri Lanka on February 23

Islamabad, Pakistan (CU)_ Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan is making his first visit to Sri Lanka on February 23. He will stay in the country for two days. Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked President Rajapaksa for the invitation and expressed his glad and eagerness to visit Sri Lanka.

PM Khan took to Twitter and wrote, “Thank you for your invitation President Rajapaksa. Looking forward to visit to Sri Lanka to further strengthen the friendship & cooperation between our two countries”. According to a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PM Khan will be accompanied by a high-level delegation, including members of the Federal Cabinet and senior officials.

PM Khan will have meetings with Gotabaya Rajapaksa, the President of Sri Lanka, and Mahinda Rajapaksa, the Prime Minister. They will discuss and explore policies to expand trade and investment between the two countries. They are expected to discuss about cooperation in the sectors of health and education, agriculture and science, defenses and security, and culture and tourism. The visit will also enhance the bilateral ties between the two countries.

The reconstitution of the Parliamentary Friendship Association between Sri Lanka and Pakistan will also be revealed during the trip. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that PM Khan will also engage in a joint Trade and Investment Conference intended to encourage trade and investment between the two countries. It was announced that Prime Minister Khan’s scheduled address to the parliament next week was cancelled by the Sri Lankan government. Sri Lankan parliament’s head of communication Shan Wijetunge stated that due to PM Imran Khan’s tight schedule, his address to the parliament was cancelled.
