LONDON (CU)_Last week, Queen Elizabeth met with outgoing Defence Services Secretary Rear Admiral James Macleod and Major General Eldon Millar, who is taking over the position, at Windsor Castle on Wednesday. The event marked Her Majesty’s first appearance since her son Prince Charles tested positive for COVID-19 the previous week. At the time, it was said that the 95-year-old monarch, who was not yet displaying any symptoms, was being monitored nevertheless. A few days later, Buckingham Palace revealed that the Queen had also tested positive for the viral disease.

The Palace said in a statement that Her Majesty has been experiencing mild, cold-like symptoms and that she expected to continue to perform light duties. “Buckingham Palace confirm that the queen has today tested positive for COVID,” the statement read. “Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week. She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines.”

Following the announcement, well wishes poured in for the Queen from across the Commonwealth from the public, as well as state leaders. Wishes for the monarch’s speedy recovery was led by British Prime Minster Boris Johnson, who said on Twitter: “I’m sure I speak for everyone in wishing Her Majesty the Queen a swift recovery from COVID and a rapid return to vibrant good health.”

This was followed by wishes from Prime Minister Scott Morrison. “Wishing Her Majesty the Queen a speedy recovery from COVID,” the Australian leader tweeted. “People of that age, depending on the nature of how the virus has impacted them, can pull through and I have no doubt and certainly hope and pray that will be the case for Her Majesty and we wish her all the best,” he also told Nine Radio on Sunday.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also took to twitter to convey their well wishes to Her Majesty. “My thoughts, and the thoughts of millions of Canadians, are with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II today. We’re wishing her a fast and full recovery from COVID-19,” the former noted, while his Indian counterpart added: “I wish Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth a speedy recovery and pray for her good health.”
