AFRICA  ( Commonwealth Union) _ Nigeria’s outgoing president, Muhammadu Buhari, celebrated what he referred to as a “peaceful transition of power” to the incoming administration of president-elect Bola Tinubu. In his final address to the nation on Sunday, Buhari defended his record during his two mandates in office and delivered a final broadcast to the nation on Sunday (May 28) ahead of his departure from office.

In his address, the 80-year-old President expressed his appreciation to the citizens and claimed that he is leaving the country in a better state than when he assumed power. Buhari acknowledged his role as a democratically elected leader and expressed gratitude to God and the Nigerian people for their support, highlighting a sense of fulfilment in his service.

Expressing a sense of fulfilment, Buhari stated that he believes the process of Nigeria’s rebirth has begun under his leadership, and he expressed confidence that the incoming administration will accelerate the progress toward making Nigeria a great nation. Buhari emphasized his conviction that he is leaving office in 2023 with a better Nigeria than the one he inherited in 2015.

The incoming president, Bola Tinubu, is set to be sworn in on Monday amid significant challenges facing the country. Nigeria is grappling with economic troubles, including high unemployment rates, inflation, and a need for economic reforms. Additionally, the country is facing a worsening security situation, with persistent issues such as insurgency, banditry, and kidnappings in various regions.

As Tinubu assumes office, he will be tasked with addressing these pressing issues and steering the country towards stability and progress. The expectations for his administration are high, and Nigerians will be looking to him for effective leadership, economic recovery, and enhanced security measures to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the nation.

The incoming president’s ability to tackle these challenges head-on and implement comprehensive reforms will be crucial in determining Nigeria’s trajectory in the coming years. As Tinubu takes the oath of office, he faces the responsibility of guiding Nigeria through these difficult times and working towards a brighter future for the nation and its people.
