$300 billion industry from its current $10.6 billion. “ We have tried to address some of the most pressing challenges faced by the industry in the last one and a half months in order to achieve this target,” Aswhini Vaishnaw, the Minister of Communications, It And Railways, said while unveiling the report titled, ‘US$300bn Sustainable Electronics Manufacturing and Exports by 2026’.

According to the Minister, the government is looking to expand the number of workers involved in the industry, who will be employed by large factories which will be set up across the country. “This requires changes in labour regulations and I have already spoken to the labour minister and received commitment that whatever changes will need to be made will be made for companies to set up large factories in the country,” he said.

The report further revealed that India’s mobile phone production is pegged as the engine of the $300 billion target, with plans to expand production in the sector to $126 billion, along with industrial electronics, hardware and IT products, with an estimated production of $25 billion each.

According to Minister Vaishnaw, housing for employees is another key focus of the government, which has already identified three locations which can be converted into industrial zones with strong infrastructure to support manufacturing.
