According to Matt Barber, Global Events Director at Crain Communications, “it was evident that it was time to update the award categories in order to reflect the evolution of the industry as entirety and to broaden its appeal to every part of the UK & Eire plastics community” as the Plastics Industry Awards approach their 23rd year. “The category adjustments acknowledge the value of sustainability and plastics recycling while also emphasizing the contributions of additive manufacturing, extrusion, blow molding, and injection molding.

Both industrial and consumer goods with a stronger emphasis on sustainability are eligible for the sustainable product design prize. Two brand-new prizes for 2024 are recycling machinery innovation and recycler of the year.

The ever-popular Individual awards include the unsung hero award, the outstanding plastics industry ambassador, and apprentice or trainee of the year, which includes a reward of £500 sponsored by the Polymer Machinery Manufacturers and Distributors Association (PMMDA).

The processor of the year trophy is still one of the most sought-after prizes. Toolmakers, auxiliary, extrusion & blow molding, and injection molding all have supplier partnership honors. The polymer materials, or “plastics,” that the plastics business produces are essential to several sectors such as packaging, electronics, aircraft, manufacturing, and transportation. It also provides services related to plastics. It belongs to the chemical sector. Furthermore, mineral oil is a component of the petrochemical sector because it is the primary component of polymers.

Plastics engineering is a significant component of the industrial sector in addition to plastics manufacture. Because engineering plastic has superior mechanical and thermal qualities to more commonly used commodity plastics, it is the dominant raw material in the latter industry.
