LONDON (CU)_British Prime Minister Boris Johnson on Tuesday (Feb 16) said that the United Kingdom will fully support Japan’s efforts to host the Olympics and Paralympics which were postponed to this Summer, on account of the pandemic.
PM Johnson made these comments during a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, ahead of the virtual G7 summit, which will be presided by the United Kingdom on Friday.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in London, the two leaders agreed on the important that will be played by the Group of Seven industrialized nations, in defeating the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring equitable access to vaccines across the globe, and in helping to build back better from the pandemic.

The British Prime Minister and PM Suga “agreed to work together to apply our shared values to international issues”, including the military coup in Myanmar, as well as the situations in Xinjiang and Hong Kong, the statement noted.
The Prime Ministers further discussed the importance of working together to tackle climate change, as PM Johnson welcomed Japan’s commitment to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050, ahead of the COP26 Summit, which will also be hosted by the United Kingdom in November this year.
