Whilst some negotiations remain ongoing, the overall direction’s clear: the UK’s creating an increasingly diverse portfolio of international trading relationships that extend well beyond traditional European markets.

Evolving UK-EU relations

The intended UK-EU summit, initially scheduled for July ’26, has been postponed following the change in the UK’s political leadership. However, negotiations continue to be sustained behind the scenes.

Officials are progressing with the mandatory 5-year review of the Trade & Cooperation Agreement (TCA). This review is alongside wider discussions aimed at strengthening the trading relationship.

The CPTPP becomes a reality for British exporters

Canada is expected to complete its implementation in September 2026. UK businesses may soon benefit from preferential access across all 12 CPTPP member economies. That may create one of the world’s largest free trade areas spanning the Asia-Pacific and North America besides Latin America.
