The novel technology can assist users save a lot of time, an Honor representative said. In further examples, users drag pictures from Instagram to pursue similar items to purchase online, and calendar entries are automatically formed based on email or text.

Honor’s innovative AI portal supports over 100 universally most often used Apps, CEO George Zhao said at a lunch occasion held in Barcelona, ahead of the Mobile World Congress industry event.

Honor intends to commercialize so-called semantic AI, which permits machines to understand the meaning of text and search terms, leading to more precise results and easier data discovery. The company also declared that it will bring its eye-tracking technology, which is obtainable in China, to the universal market, to aid users answer phone calls and surf the web hands-free.

Zhao said Honor expects to have foreign shipments account for more than half of its sales in three years.

The [overseas] development rate is much higher than [domestic], Zhao informed Nikkei Asia. I would indicate in three years over 50% of Honor’s sales will originate from the global market.

He also stated to journalists that his business sees strong progress in Europe and Latin America, such as Mexico and Peru.

The corporation, previously a unit of Huawei, is also seeking to develop its association with international tech giants. The novel Magic 6 Pro uses Qualcomm’s newest premium Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile processors, the identical chip powering Samsung’s newest phones. It also represents at MWC ideas established using Meta’s large language model, Llama 2, that will permit prompt question-and-answer features on future devices.

In January, Samsung revealed its Galaxy S24 series, bursting with eye-catching generative AI features like live phone call translation, note-taking, and condensing features.

Honor is eager to aggressively cultivate its overseas business amid a slowdown in China and the response of its previous parent, Huawei. Formerly Huawei’s budget handset line, Honor was turned off in late 2020. Foreign sales as a share of its total grew to approximately 23% in 2023, from 9.8% in 2022, according to Canalys.

For Honor, achievement in overseas markets is a significant step in its voyage towards an IPO, Runar Bjorhovde, a specialist with Canalys said.

Honor initiated to make some advancement on this front, as well as in Europe and the Middle East, where it became the fifth major vendor in the previous quarter of 2023, Bjorhovde said.

IDC forecasts a substantial surge in next-generation AI smartphones, with 170 million units anticipated to ship in 2024. This signifies a near-tripling in volume related to 2023’s projected 51 million and would be equal to a 15% share of the entire smartphone market.

Bryan Ma, a specialist with IDC, told Nikkei Asia that the smartphone business is gambling on AI to recover interest in the market, especially given the 3.4% weakening last year. But the irresponsibility of the applications and use cases are still challenges, Ma said. Several of the AI smartphones being acquired in the short term will most probably be purchased since they are flagship phones rather than because the customers were specifically looking for AI, according to Ma.
