Therefore, the pressure is now mounting on the government to make good on its promises from MPs, regional leaders and industry experts.
Last week, ahead of the Prime Minister’s speech, 65 MPs called on Whitehall to set up a national plan to boost UK manufacturing, an industry known for higher wages.
