Prince Harry’s ‘breath-taking arrogance’ prompts unprecedented intervention from Downing Street

-

LONDON (CU)_Prince Harry is currently in the Netherlands with his wife Meghan Markle, for the ongoing Invictus Games. On their way to The Hague, they visited Queen Elizabeth at her Windsor Castle residence, marking  the first time the young royals returned to the UK as a couple since they stepped back from royal duties back in 2020. While the palace has refused to comment on the meeting, the Duke was more than happy to chat about their ‘private’ time together.

It was his latest US TV appearance, as he spoke to breakfast show Today, further fuelling the rift with his estranged brother and prompting an unprecedented intervention from Downing Street. “It was great. It was really nice to see her in some element of privacy. Being with her it was great, it was just so nice to see her, she’s on great form,” Prince Harry said of his meeting with the Queen. “She’s always got a great sense of humour with me and I’m just making sure that she’s protected and got the right people around her,” he added, appearing to make a pointed swipe at royal household staff, including the so-called ‘men in grey suits’ who advise Her Majesty.

This suggestion by Prince Harry that the Queen needed extra protection was dismissed by Downing Street when it was inquired if Prime Minister Boris Johnson was confident in the arrangements for ensuring the Queen’s welfare, to which his spokesman replied: “Yes”.

He went on to speak of his ‘special’ relationship with his grandmother, which meant she told him things she would keep from others. “Both Meghan and I had tea with her, so it was really nice to catch up with her. We have a really special relationship, we talk about things that she can’t talk about with anybody else,” the Duke said.

While a spokesman for Prince Harry has reportedly refused to explain the remarks he made in the interview, Buckingham Palace and Kensington Palace have also chosen not to comment on the matter. However, it has been revealed that the Duke’s “breath-taking arrogance” had left royal staff in a sense of shock, as they felt Prince Harry’s delusion knew “no bounds”. “It is the Queen’s birthday and despite a difficult year people are working full steam ahead on making her Platinum Jubilee an event to remember that properly honours such a remarkable woman. She just doesn’t deserve this,” one well-placed royal source told the Daily Mail. “I have no idea what intention he may or may not have had in saying this, but Harry needs to start thinking before he opens his mouth.”
