KOLKATA INDIA – looks like the private sector is finally coming in and taking a stand. Airports all over the world laid off staff during the pandemic because they had to and now there isn’t enough staff to run the airport.

India is known for having massive airports and need a huge support staff to help it to run on a day to day basic. The first thing the airports look at is a security staff. There is a lot of illegal activity that can take place in an airport right under the authorities’ noses and it goes unnoticed.

There are drug mules, child trafficking and various other things that can be done if there isn’t enough security at the airports and the Kolkata airport is very much aware of this. For the very first time the Kolkata airport has made the decision to hire private security personnel to come and work in a government run airport.

This has never happened before ever as there has always been enough staff provided by the government. But with the pandemic and people being laid a lot of people either started their own business or joined better jobs with better job security. Which meant that now the government agencies were lacking people to send.

But private firms had enough people willing to take on the job. This is one of the reasons the Kolkata airport has decided to take on private guards. But of course, they will not be allowed to carry arms in the airport. They will also wear a uniform that is different to the usual khaki-colored ones that government guards wear so that they can be identified easily.

A batch of 74 security guards is currently being trained in the nuances of airport security. This batch is scheduled to start from next week.
