Reasons why pets are good for kids

(Commonwealth Union)_ Having a pet has numerous social and emotional benefits for youngsters. Positive interactions with household pets, such as cats or dogs, can increase a child’s self-esteem and confidence. Routines such as walking the dog or feeding their fish might help kids develop a sense of responsibility. Playing with their pet can also help them cope with stress and worry. When caring for a pet, children learn how to “nurture”, which is the act of caring for others. They learn to create a trusting bond with their pet by nurturing and helping to care for it, which is a vital element of social-emotional development.

Pets have a lot of energy and can be a terrific way for youngsters to get some exercise! Pets like dogs need to move around every day, from crawling together to going for a stroll or a swim, and youngsters may help with that. This is not only a terrific method to get kids moving, but it also allows them to practise unstructured play.

Talking to your pet benefits your infant just by observing and learning. They will soon discover the specific techniques to communicate with them as well! Pets teach children nonverbal cues and the value of nonverbal communication. Pets can also be excellent subjects for teaching children new communication skills. They can, for example, practise reading to their dogs (even if they don’t comprehend the story!)

Interacting with pets opens up a world of new sensory sensations! Pets open us a whole new sensory world, from touching their fur to seeing them move and communicate.

Children learn to use their balance and body awareness senses while playing with dogs. They learn to use various sorts of touch depending on the animal. Children, for example, will learn to use a gentler touch with more sensitive animals such as bunnies or cats as opposed to a dog or a horse.
