Replica of Port City Colombo in London

Sri Lanka (Commonwealth Union)_ A significant milestone in Sri Lanka’s economic vision materialized recently as the Sri Lanka High Commission in London, in partnership with the Port City Colombo Economic Commission  and CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd, unveiled the first-ever replica of the Port City Colombo. This momentous event, held at the Sri Lanka High Commission’s “Gateway to Sri Lanka Lounge,” showcased a detailed model of the ambitious Port City Colombo project, which promises to redefine Sri Lanka’s economic landscape.

The ceremony drew distinguished guests, including Lord Swraj Paul, former Deputy Speaker of the House of Lords and renowned British entrepreneur and philanthropist. Also in attendance were Sri Lanka’s State Minister of Higher Education Dr. Suren Raghavan, Princess Katarina of Yugoslavia, Former British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Sir Dominick Chilcott, and Eric Ou, Assistant Managing Director of CHEC Port City Colombo (Pvt) Ltd. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of the replica of the Port City Colombo by Lord Swraj Paul, followed by a visionary speech delivered by Sri Lanka’s High Commissioner to the UK and Ambassador to the Republic of Ireland, Rohitha Bogollagama.

Additionally, High Commissioner Bogollagama also emphasized the strategic importance, investment, global significance and potential of the Port City, describing it as the largest single investment initiative in Sri Lanka. He remarked, “It is indeed a great pleasure to welcome everyone on this historical occasion of unveiling the replica of the biggest single largest investment that is taking place in Sri Lanka being the Port City in Colombo.” Furthermore, Lord Swraj Paul also shared his sentiments, reflecting on his long standing relationship with Sri Lanka and expressing admiration for the leadership of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and High Commissioner Bogollagama.

Mr. Eric Ou provided a detailed update on the current status of the Port City Colombo highlighting key milestones such as the upcoming opening of a duty-free shop and significant investments already secured. He underscored the project’s economic impact, noting that the initial investment stands at $1.4 billion, and that already six plots have been sold, with nearly 100 authorized persons registered this year. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Minister (Commercial) of the Sri Lanka High Commission Somasena Mahadiulwewa, who expressed gratitude for the collaboration that made the event possible.

Furthermore, the Port City Colombo project, developed in partnership with CHEC, represents a visionary effort poised to transform Sri Lanka into a leading business hub in South Asia. Its strategic location and comprehensive infrastructure aim to attract global enterprises, fostering economic growth and strengthening ties between Sri Lanka and the international community.
