Rugby league returns to Sydney as NRL, NRLW, and Origin draws released

-

seven-week season to take place early next year before their fifth campaign later in 2022. Foundation club St. George Illawarra will kick off the rescheduled season against newcomers Gold Coast at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle.

They will then be followed by a grand final rematch between Brisbane Broncos and the Sydney Roosters before Newcastle take on Parramatta to close out the first round.

Games will then be shifted to WIN Stadium in Wollongong for a second round of stand-alone triple-header matches.

The NRLW will then align its calendar with the NRL from round three, with games scheduled to be played alongside the men’s competition throughout March, including double-headers.

Similar excitement surrounds the opening rounds of the NRL season as last year’s grand finalists, Penrith, take on Manly, home to Dally M winner Tom Trbojevic, in the first game on Thursday March 10 at Panthers Stadium.

The game marks the return of the NRL to Sydney for the first time since July after the pandemic forced the 2021 season to finish in Queensland.

Other round one matches include the Warriors facing St. George on the Sunshine Coast, while former Rabbitohs halfback Adam Reynolds will lead Brisbane out against his old club.

Elsewhere, the Roosters take on Newcastle, while the new Sharks boss, Craig Fitzgibbons, will open his new coaching chapter against the Raiders in Canberra.

Finally, closing out round one will be Wests Tigers against the Melbourne Storm, who will be without suspended stars Cameron Munster and Brandon Smith, before Parramatta take on Newcastle and North Queensland play the Bulldogs.

The league draw also comes alongside the confirmed dates for the 2022 State of Origin series.

Game one will take place at Stadium Australia in Sydney on June 8 before shifting cross-country to Optus Stadium in Perth for game two on June 26.

Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane will host the third and final game on July 13.
