UK (Commonwealth) _ HMRC records show that over the first four months of this year, Scottish salmon exports increased by almost a third in terms of value. According to statistics analyzed by industry association Salmon Scotland, the value of salmon exports increased by 36% to £250 million over the same period previous year, or £65 million.

Rolling over a full year, the amount was £645 million, the largest in five years and an 11% rise over £581 million the year before. The sales value of salmon exports reached its greatest level since 2019.

Exports increased by 35% in terms of volume as well. Throughout the year’s first four months, 26,000 tons of Scottish salmon were shipped to sufficient for about 100 million meals to be distributed to more than 40 countries.

According to Salmon Scotland, if the present growth rate keeps up, worldwide sales might reach a record in 2024. In advance of the UK General Election on July 4, the sector released a manifesto earlier this month that called for a reduction in the bureaucracy around seafood exports to the EU.

Salmon In order to increase exports, Scotland is pleading with the general election winner on July 4 to strengthen ties with the EU. It also demands the removal of pointless bureaucracy related to salmon exporting to Europe and the implementation of computerized export health certifications, which have been costing salmon producers an estimated £3 million year since Brexit.

Salmon Scotland’s Chief Executive, Tavish Scott, stated that the current export results demonstrate a notable surge in the global demand for our wholesome, nutrient-dense fish, demonstrating the great reputational and economic worth of Scottish salmon.

Scotland’s salmon brand will be protected both locally and globally as a result of the UK Government’s Protected Geographical Indication program, which offers additional legal protection as exports rise.

In light of the vital role that income creation plays for our farmers—especially in light of the current cost-of-living crisis—whoever takes over at Number 10 needs to expedite the fresh Scottish salmon export process in order to provide our consumers with faster delivery.

We look forward to collaborating with the incoming UK government to increase exports and advance national prosperity.

Since salmon’s Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) was changed, products branded as “Scottish salmon” had to abide by stringent regulations, which include certain production techniques. Prior to now, only “Scottish farmed salmon” was covered by the PGI.

With £153 million of the entire value of Scotland’s salmon exports between January and April, the EU remains the primary market. Sales to the bloc increased by £53 million, while volume increased by 51% to over 17,000 tons.

With £143 million in sales, France continues to be the single biggest market for Scottish salmon. In other news, exports outside the EU rose 14% to £97 million, nearly all of which went to the US as naïve salmon (£56 million, up 13%).

It’s understandable why Scotland is one of the top locations in the world for Atlantic salmon fishing. Many of the nation’s well-known and heavily fishable salmon rivers provide some of the best salmon fishing for even the pickiest fishermen. What makes Scotland such a salmon angler’s heaven is the enormous range of salmon fishing that is offered there.

Scotland really has it all, from the bigger, internationally renowned rivers like the Dee, Spey, Tay, and Tweed to the smaller, more private rivers of the Scottish Highlands. Scotland has one of the longest Atlantic salmon fishing seasons in Europe since it is possible to go salmon fishing there for eleven months out of the year.

While each river has its own opening and closing schedule, most rivers in the nation open in January or February and shut in September or October, with a few allowing salmon fishing right up to the end of November.

Scotland is one of the most sought-after salmon fishing destinations in the world, with most of its rivers producing fresh, hard-fighting salmon throughout the year. It’s a match made in fishing heaven when you mix Scotland’s breathtaking beauty with the amazing salmon fishing prospects!

In Scotland, most salmon fishing beats are privately owned since they are situated on private estates. This guarantees that the number of fishermen who are allowed to fish a particular area of water at any one moment is strictly limited.
