Kenya (Commonwealth Union) _ The Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), represented by the Sharjah Export Development Center (SEDC), concluded its business mission to Uganda and Kenya. The SCCI led a delegation that included representatives from the private sector and several renowned Sharjah-based manufacturers.
The six-day mission was successful for the SCCI because it helped discover new opportunities for commercial and industrial cooperation with Kenya and Uganda in several crucial areas, including energy solutions, technology, food security, iron and steel, and agriculture. It also introduced the wealth of economic benefits of Sharjah, promoted the facilities made available to foreign investors, and promoted the “Made in” movement.
Kenyan businesspeople and investors were urged by Richard Ngatia, President of the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), to strengthen their ties and form alliances with the Emirati business community to take advantage of the efforts being made by the official governments of Kenya and the UAE to expand their bilateral relations.
The second stop on the trade tour was in the capital of Uganda, Kampala, where a business meeting between Sharjah and Uganda was held. This meeting highlighted the investment opportunities on both sides and introduced the exceptional advantages the Emirate of Sharjah possesses in terms of its economy, tourism, and infrastructure, including its free zones, airports, advanced and qualified logistics, and strategic location, not to mention the emirate’s investment-stimulating environment.
The SCCI Chairman, Abdullah Sultan Al Owais, the Ambassador of the Republic of Uganda to the UAE, Zaake Wanume Kibedi, as well as other SCCI officials and members of the business communities of the UAE and Uganda attended the event. Al Owais remarked that the UAE and the Emirate of Sharjah are two of Uganda’s most significant strategic allies, and he added that the backing of the governments of both countries has helped the UAE and Uganda’s relationship to flourish in several areas. He also mentioned how commerce between the two countries expanded by 500% by 2022, reaching US$2 billion.
