Shreya Lenka of Odisha could be the first K-Pop star of India

Mumbai, India (CU)_ Eighteen-year-old Shreya Lenka from Odisha is on the verge of becoming India’s first K-pop star. Shreya is one among the two finalists chosen from the international auditions that were conducted for the selection of South Korean female group Blackswan. Shreya will join the band as the fifth member if she defeats Gabriela Dalcin of Brazil. Earlier in May 2021, Blackswan’s label DR Music made an announcement that they will conduct worldwide auditions to fill the vacancy left by Hyemi, who departed the band last year.

According to DR Music’s recent statement, two individuals are now vying for the coveted positions. According to the entertainment website Meaww, Gabriela Dalcin is a member of the dance cover girl group Queens of Revolution. Meanwhile, Shreya Lenka, who was the only Indian trainee chosen, is a trained dancer and yoga professional. Similar to Gabriela, Shreya also dose K-pop dance cover versions.

According to reports, the two final candidates are now en route to South Korea for a month-long training session. At the conclusion of this period, any one among the two will be chosen to officially join Blackswan. According to the media, Shreya Lenka was born in 2003 in Rourkela. She is a trained Hindustani classical dancer as well as Odissi dancer and other Indian traditional forms of dances.

According to the Odisha media, Shreya said, “Since I have a deep voice, I faced difficulty in finding the right vocal trainer. My grandmother helped me find one”. The teen added, “She took me to a Hindustani classical music teacher, who taught me twice a week. But, for the western songs, I had to rely on online videos and self-learning”. In 2020, Blackswan made its debut. Youngheun, Fatou, Judy, and Leia are the four members of the group.
