Singapore Grand Hyatt’s `big bang’

One of the garden city’s best-known hotels is plotting a ‘big bang’ opening in early 2024.

The Grand Hyatt Singapore, which pulled down the shutters in September 2022, is steadily working towards what promises to be a stunning reveal of the new Grand Hyatt in 2024.

That marks another delay for this Lion City landmark just off the busy Scotts & Orchard intersection, which initially intended a two-stage reopening stretching across 2023, prior to pushing this back to a single ‘big bang’ opening by Christmas 2023.

Its timetable has been revised by the hotel for this exhaustive renovation project yet again, while also reverting to a phased approach to each of its two wings.

According to the website of the Grand Hyatt Singapore, the Terrace Wing and its facilities will re-open in Q1 2024 while guestrooms in Grand Wing will open in 2024.

Once the reopening date has been confirmed by the hotel, accommodation bookings will be available. The hotel is accepting enquiries for groups and events for 2024 at present.

So what could guests expect to see when the Grand Hyatt Singapore return to the Scotts Road stage?

Although the Grand Wing will return under the same name it will be poised as a contemporary and urban wing according to Hyatt, while what was known previously as the Terrace Wing will become the Wellness Wing.

This will be dressed with urban landscaping and what is described by Hyatt as a series of natural immersion gardens and lounging day-beds designed into the guestrooms which will be upgraded with enhanced soundproofing capabilities for a more restful experience.

A greener entry awaits for the Grand Hyatt Singapore.

The Mezza9 – the hotel’s signature restaurant will make way for a new world-class culinary concept in collaboration with Sergio Herman, acclaimed Dutch chef-entrepreneur who will be making his Asian debut at the hotel.

Both the in-hotel Martini Bar and the basement bar/nightclub Brix will also return.

A food waste management plant will be installed on the sustainability front, along with systems for rainwater harvesting and laundry water recycling.

The Grand Hyatt Singapore was one of the city’s original five-star hotels, which debuted in 1971 as the Hyatt Regency.

Its location at 10 Scotts Road puts the Grand Hyatt at the busy downtown hub of Orchard Road, where the intersection is framed by rival Marriott, local department store Tangs and the Ion Orchard mega-mall. If you are headed to the Red Dot, do not miss the city’s Michelin-approved eateries, ranging from value-for-money restaurants to hawker centre stalls, and take time out to discover Singapore like a local
