South Africa asks Serum Institute of India to take back one million vaccine doses

The Serum institute of India has sent over one million doses of the Covid 19 vaccine to South Africa in late January for South Africa to start their inoculation programme. Once the vaccine arrived and the testing began the countries’ clinical trial of the vaccine showed that it could not offer even minimal protection against the 501Y.V2 variant.

This proved to be a problem as the one million does now proved to be useless for the frontline workers as the variant South Africa has was a strong one than the vaccine can provide protection against. Whilst India was trying to help them start the programme the AstraZeneca vaccine that was sent over did not help combat the variant of the virus. There are only 2 solution to this problem one is that India takes back the one million does sent over or two is that the South African government sells the dosage to any country willing to buy it.
