Tennis is taking the sports world by storm and these brilliant tennis players from the eastern block is in fact taking the tennis world by storm. While the world has produced some star players it seems that they have to get through an entire eastern circuit just to make the cut, where they will face more from the eastern block to prove themselves worthy of playing the game. Below are some of the predictions made for the WTA in Montreal and it’s nothing short of exciting?

Sevastova is 3-0 against Gauff, including two wins this year, Sevastova has been inconsistent this season and has lost two straight on hard courts. Gauff has been great this season, she won Parma, reached the semis in Rome and Adelaide, and had success at Wimbledon and Roland Garros. This is Gauff’s first tournament since Wimbledon, and despite the h2h differential, she has a solid chance to rise to the occasion and defeat Sevastova at a time when Sevastova is not playing her best tennis.

Kudermetova won their only match, she’s lost four straight matches though and has cooled off considerably after some nice tournament runs earlier in the season. Putintseva is playing well, she reached the quarters in San Jose, and won Budapest in recent weeks. She looks set to continue her success in her opening match.

The pair have split meetings, Tormo reached the semis in Bad Homburg, along with two wins in Tokyo, and a run to the quarterfinals in Miami. Zhao is a Canadian player who has never reached the WTA Tour level, this match should be relatively straight forward for the more accomplished Sorribes Tormo.

This pair have split meetings, Dart qualified and then upset Canadian Leylah Fernandez in the opening round, Andreescu now stands in her way, Andreescu reached the final in Miami but has only played a limited schedule this season and has struggled at times. Playing at home she’ll have tons of support, but Dart is a credible threat. With Dart playing well I’ll go with the upset.
