Springboks the last line of defense…

-

South Africa (Commonwealth)_ South Africa’s great captain Siya Kolisi demonstrated his class once more as his team won the World Cup for the fourth time. Since being chosen captain of the Springboks in 2018, the flanker has been an excellent leader.

He led them to the World Cup triumph a year later and then played a key part in the Boks winning back-to-back titles in Paris.

On Saturday, Jacques Nienaber’s men reclaimed the Webb Ellis Cup with a nail-biting 12-11 victory over New Zealand. Kolisi has often stated his desire to play for the people of South Africa, which was clear in his post-match interview.

The Springboks gave it their best on the field, finally defeating the best Blacks and bringing delight to those at home. We were striving to restore the Springboks’ name after what transpired in the last World Cup. People were simply hoping we’d do it, but now they’re expecting us to, he told ITV.

They’ve been there for us since the beginning. There is so much wrong with our country that we are essentially the last line of defense.

There are so many folks from my hometown that are in dismal situations. There is so much separation in the country, but we show that it is possible to work together in South Africa, not just on the rugby field, but in life in general.

We can’t forget what this sport accomplished in 1995. I wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for it. There have been individuals who have battled for people who look like me to be able to play on this team before me. They never had the opportunity to do so.

I have a responsibility to offer everything I can to the jersey in order to inspire the future generation. Their most recent World Cup victory came after a tremendous battle with the All Blacks, who were superb after Sam Cane was sent off.

Late in the game, New Zealand almost stole the victory, but the Springboks just held on thanks to a great defensive effort. We knew New Zealand would come after us because that’s who they are. That is why they have had such great success. They were never going to lie down, and they didn’t, according to Kolisi. Obviously, my misbehavior in receiving that yellow card put a lot of strain on us.

South Africa won all three knockout matches by a single point, defeating France (29-28), England (16-15), and New Zealand (12-11) to win the Webb Ellis Cup. They showed incredible tenacity and talent to defeat those three teams and win the championship for the fourth time in a row.

We faced teams who had done this previously. Nobody gave England a chance when they played us, but they proved their worth. “I’m really proud of what the boys have done today, obviously the host nation, which was so difficult to play,” Kolisi remarked.

Meanwhile, Springboks back-row Pieter-Steph du Toit, who was named player of the match after a great defensive shift, dedicated his team’s Rugby World Cup Final triumph against the All Blacks in Paris on Saturday to their devoted fans.

It was a remarkable triumph for South Africa, since the result moves them above of archrival New Zealand as the most successful team in World Cup history, with four trophies.

“For all of South Africa, we are honoured to be able to play for you guys,” said Du Toit, who had a match-high 28 tackles. “I know we’ll be greeted warmly when we return home.” I’d want to thank everyone who has helped us.
