Sri Lanka into The Finals of The Asia Cup 2022!

Sri Lanka won against India in the Asia Cup Super 4 match last night, by six wickets! They chased down a target of 174 with one ball to spare. The match was what would be defined as a really good game of cricket by the critics with a balance of heart-stopping moments and moments of immense happiness as both countries cheered their national teams.

After the recital of the national anthems of the respective countries, the match commenced with India who was invited to bat as Sri Lankan skipper Dasun Shanaka won the toss earlier on and chose to bowl. The first innings had Indian Skipper Rohit Sharma as the top-most scorer with 72 off 41 balls whilst Suryakumar Yadav contributed with 34 runs. The other batsmen did their best until they were restricted at 173 at the end of the innings. The entire Sri Lankan team showcased a brilliant bowling attack with Dilshan Madushanka taking three wickets, Chamika Karunaratne taking two and Dasun Shanaka with two wickets as well.

There was much anticipation, angst and anxiety that hung heavy in the air of the stadium upon the commencement of the second innings, as both openers Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis delivered a power packed performance. This was the highest opening partnership as both batsmen respectively scored their well-deserved half centuries, laying a solid foundation for a sure shot victory. Dasun Shanaka too contributed with an immense 33 runs which added momentum to the game and led Sri Lanka to the finals. As for the bowling attack by India, Yuzvendra Chahal took 3 wickets for 34 runs, whilst Ravichandran Ashwin got one.

Sri Lanka won the match, securing their spot in the finals of the Asia Cup 2022, after a very dramatic end with only one ball to spare. The entire team had the happiest smiles on their faces as a result of a very well-deserved win. There is much excitement for the finals of the tournament now that one team is in, we are left to see who else makes it to the finals and eventually takes the cup home!
