Mumbai (Commonwealth Union)_ After over three decades in Indian cinema, Shah Rukh Khan has finally won his first National Film Award. The Bollywood superstar, known for his powerful performance in Jawan, won the Best Actor title at the 71st National Film Awards, which took place in Delhi. This year, SRK shares the best actor title with Vikrant Massey, who received recognition for his performance in 12th Fail. The announcement sparked an outpouring of excitement from fans and celebrities alike. Accordingly, friends and colleagues flooded social media with messages of congratulations, celebrating what many consider a long-overdue recognition of Shah Rukh’s contribution to Indian cinema.

In Jawan, which was filmed by Atlee, Shah Rukh plays the dual role of a father and a son. The film also stars Nayanthara, Deepika Padukone, Priyamani, Sanya Malhotra, and others in a strong ensemble cast. The film’s financial and critical success contributed to Shah Rukh’s status as a powerful actor. Following the announcement, Shah Rukh shared a heartfelt message on social media. He shared a video to address his fans and appeared with his arm in a sling due to a recent injury. He said, “Thank you for honoring me with the National Award. I’m grateful to the jury and the I&B Ministry. Overwhelmed by the love. Half a hug to everyone today!”

Director Atlee also shared his excitement online. “Feeling blessed. I’m super happy that you’ve got the National Award for Jawan. It feels emotional and inspiring to be part of your journey,” he wrote. Shah Rukh responded playfully, saying, “MAAASSS MAAASSS MAAASSS… Thank you for your vision. Only you could do this. In the next song, we’ll do more steps!” Industry veterans and close friends also celebrated SRK’s milestone. Actor Kamal Haasan posted, “Congratulations to @iamsrk on your National Award for Jawan, a recognition long overdue for your stellar impact on world cinema.”

Juhi Chawla, a longtime friend and co-star, posted an old photo of the two dancing together, writing, “HUGE Congratulations on winning the National Award! You always give your all to every film. Keep shining!” Shah Rukh responded warmly: “Thank you, Juhi. I’ve learned from the best. You’ve been an integral part of my journey.” Alongside Shah Rukh, Rani Mukerji was named Best Actress for Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway. Karan Johar’s Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani also received recognition. Gauri Khan, Shah Rukh’s wife and producer, took to social media to express her pride, saying, “Three of my favorites just WON big. When talent meets goodness, magic happens.” Suhana Khan, Shah Rukh’s daughter, posted a touching tribute with a childhood photo. “From bedtime stories to stories that leave a mark. No one tells them like you. Congratulations, love you the most,” she wrote.
Others who joined in the celebration included Kajol, who shared a poster of Jawan and congratulated Shah Rukh, and Farah Khan, who said, “This time, the shiddat really came through.” AR Rahman called SRK a “legend,” while Anil Kapoor praised the performance as “historic.” In a message to his fans, Shah Rukh reflected on the meaning of the award. “A National Award isn’t just about achievement. It’s a reminder that what I do matters.” He added, “This award is for you, as each one is. I’d love to spread my arms and share my love, but I’m a bit tied up—literally. Keep the popcorn ready. I’ll be back soon.” Looking ahead, Shah Rukh is working on King, directed by Siddharth Anand. The film will reunite him with Deepika Padukone and mark a special collaboration with his daughter, Suhana Khan.
