The BBC One show has returned this Autumn for a brand new series, with a string of new celebrities who will take to the ballroom in a bid to lift the coveted Glitterball trophy. Hamza Yassin took home the top prize last year, alongside Jowita Przystal, his professional dancing partner whilst Rose Ayling-ellis and Giovanni Pernice stormed to victory in 2021 with their incredible routines.

Angela Rippon is announced to be joining as a contestant at the age of 78 after working as a host on the original for 25 years. This makes her the oldest contestant in the history of the show. She has been the host of several previous episodes of the original series Come Dancing before it went through a heavy makeover. This major decision was taken almost fifty years after she turned heads with an energetic dance routine in Morecambe and Wise’s 1976 Christmas special, when she left behind her newsreader’s desk. At the time her dance routine was definitely a bold move since journalists were not in the habit of stepping over to the entertainment industry.
Angela Rippon had been having discussions with the network for the past couple of days, but now her addition to the series has been confirmed by The Sun. A source who worked closely with the show claimed that it was such a coup to get Angela. Since she was Mrs Come Dancing, it is wonderful that she was planning to be on Strictly Come Dancing all these years later. She is the dream signing and the audience at home will love her, since many of them will remember her from her days of hosting the show in its previous incarnation, and it is incredible that someone of her age is doing it. She loves dancing, and the bosses think that it will be a joy to watch her performance, they stated.
From the Cobbles to the Dance Floor, Coronation Street star Ellie Leach is reportedly set to join the Strictly Come Dancing lineup. The soap star aged 22 who quit her role as Faye Windass earlier this year after 10 years on the cobbles has allegedly signed up for the new series, which will kick off in September. Her partner Craig was devastated when her character left to start a new life with Jackson and her daughter, Miley. Sources claim that Ellie may welcome the so called ‘Strictly Curse’ where stars are seen to fall for their dance partners, after splitting from her dancer beau back in May. It was revealed by sources of the possibility of her joining Strictly Come Dancing, that the dance contest will give her a chance to get glammed up in a way that she rarely did on the Cobbles of Weatherfield since Faye was a comparatively frumpy character
