Africa (Commonwealth Union) _ A Day after an unexplained explosion in Johannesburg, South Africa, police and emergency teams are still investigating the scene. The public has been urged to stay away from the area to avoid interfering with the investigation. The blast, which occurred during rush hour on Wednesday, resulted in one person’s death and left at least 48 others injured. The cause of the explosion remains unclear, and authorities are conducting a thorough investigation to determine the source and potential risks of another explosion or gas leak.

Emergency management services discovered the body of the deceased during a nighttime search of the blast area. Twelve people are still receiving medical treatment in Johannesburg hospitals, while the other 36 injured have been discharged. The explosion caused extensive damage, affecting an area covering five city blocks and damaging at least 34 vehicles. Some vehicles were flipped on their sides or lying on top of others, and several roads were affected.

The incident occurred just before 5:45 p.m., with many people on the streets waiting for minibus taxis, a common commuting method in South Africa. Eyewitnesses reported people being thrown into the air by the explosion. Emergency crews worked throughout the night to search through the damaged vehicles and nearby buildings.

Authorities are working diligently to identify the cause of the blast and ensure the safety of the area. The investigation involves examining underground pipes and cables in the vicinity to rule out any other potential threats. While the situation remains tense, people have begun to return to the busy area in Johannesburg’s central business district. The incident has left the city in shock and raised concerns about the safety and security of the area.
