CANADA (CU)_- The saying “happy wife, happy life,” has no clear origins but is said to be attributed to a poem back in 1903, however a recent study has dismissed this quote stating that it is not one sided and the responsibility falls on both partners. Couples who were queried in regards to their relationships stated that male partner’s satisfaction was found to be just as important as the female one.

University of Alberta’s Matthew Johnson, professor in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life & Environmental Sciences and a relationship researcher who led the study stated that the findings challenge the idea that women have a unique measure of diagnostic abilities men just don’t have.

The study focused on 10 studies from Canada, USA and Germany that analyzed 901 couples daily for 21 days and 3405 couples were analyzed annually for 5 years.

The findings of the analysis of over than 50,000 relationship satisfaction results indicate that male and female satisfaction rates were both strong predictors on the same level of predicting their partners short and long-term happiness.

Johnson further explained that the study indicates that male experiences and predictions of their relationships are just as informative and gender plays no role in the experience of both partners. The study further indicated that there was a shared responsibility with a common ability for both genders.

According to Johnson this large study is the 1st to thoroughly test a theory that emerged in the 70s which were early years of studies on couples.

The initial studies on couples had found that female behavior was more indicative on stability of the relationship concluding that females would have a greater measure of the relationship.

The findings also demonstrated that when people were more satisfied than usual in their relationship or less than satisfied, that feeling was likely to persist long-term.

Johnson further stated that it was vital for couples to identify patterns and act on them.
