Tamil Nadu government implements 2021 New Health Insurance Scheme for its employees

Chennai, India (CU)_ The government of Tamil Nadu has announced a new health insurance scheme for its employees and their dependents. The government recently issued an order for executing the New Health Insurance Scheme, 2021. According to the Government Order, United India Insurance Company Limited, Chennai, would carry out the agreement with the government as suggested by the tender scrutinising committee. For employees of government departments, state public sector organizations, statutory boards, local bodies, and government universities, the scheme would cover 203 approved treatments and operations at 1,169 selected healthcare facilities.

The order stated, “The annual premium payable by the government to United India Insurance Company, Chennai, shall be at the rate of ₹3,240 [plus GST as applicable from time to time] per employee per annum for a block period of four years from July 1, 2021 to June 30, 2025”.

In four years, a family’s total limit of assistance will be up to ten lakh rupees. The yearly premium initially paid by the government would be deducted from the employee salary at a rate of INR 300 per month, which includes INR 295 for NHIS and INR 5 for corpus fund contribution, beginning in July of this year. All beneficiaries will receive identification cards from the company.

Both government and commercial hospitals’ pay wards would be covered by the scheme. Additionally, a minimum of three institutions in Puducherry, Bengaluru, Thiruvananthapuram, and New Delhi will also be covered, except government hospitals. A four-year scheme known as the New Health Insurance Scheme that lasted between July 2016 and June 2020 was introduced by the Tamil Nadu government to its employees in 2016. The deadline of which was extended to June 30, 2021.
