Maldives (Commonwealth Union)_ At the 29th World Travel Awards, Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) won the title of World’s Leading Tourist Board 2022. During a ceremony held at Al Bustan Palace, a Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Oman, MMPRC was granted the title. MMPRC vied with 28 other tourism boards for this coveted award. This is the first time in the history of the Maldives that MMPRC has won the esteemed title of World’s Leading Tourism Board, a testament to the company’s hard work and dedication for the past year in continuing to market and retain the Maldives’ status at the top of the global tourism industry.

Thoyyib Mohamed, chief executive officer and managing director of MMPRC, accepted the award on the company’s behalf. Addressing the occasion, Thoyyib remarked that receiving the award shows the company’s team efforts over the past couple of years in overcoming the most challenging global crises faced in recent years. This year has been one of the most exciting for the tourism sector worldwide.

After the COVID-19 pandemic, several nations have now reopened their boundaries to international travel and have also launched huge initiatives to revitalize tourism in their respective nations. MMPRC continued their work without hesitation despite the challenges created by the Russia-Ukraine conflict, which had a negative impact on the country’s leading and fast-growing markets. They quickly shifted their focus towards other potential leading sources, including the Middle Eastern, Nordic, and Indian markets.

Moreover, MMPRC has performed a total of 149 operations in 22 worldwide markets during the first three quarters of 2022, covering both the travel industry and consumers with a combined reach of over 8.6 billion. Maintaining brand visibility in worldwide marketplaces was one of the primary goals of their strategies. The success of MMPRC’s marketing initiatives was evident in the arrival numbers, as the Maldives nears its 2022 goal of receiving 1.6 million tourists. Thus far, the nation has received almost 1,300,000 tourists.
