The Sussexes have very little to say on the death of Prince Philip

LONDON (CU)_Nigel Farage, former Brexit Party leader, has slammed Harry and Meghan’s third person and one sentence response to the demise of The Duke of Edinburgh. On Friday (9 April), the Buckingham Palace announced that Prince Philip had died peacefully at Windsor Castle.

While Prince Harry will travel back to London for his grandfather’s funeral, however, the Duchess of Sussex will not be joining him, as she is heavily pregnant with their second child and has been advised that the 12-hour flight may be too taxing.

Nevertheless, the couple issued a statement on the website of their Archewell organisation saying: “In loving memory of His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh, 1921-2021. Thank you for your service… you will be greatly missed.”

Responding to this statement, the former MEP said the response of the Sussexes shows their “contempt” for Prince Philip, adding that the British public will not welcome them back, “even for the funeral”.

“For a couple that do public emotion as a career, this third person and one sentence statement shows their contempt for this great man and the monarchy,” Farage said on Twitter. “The British public will not welcome Harry and Meghan back, even for the funeral.”

Meanwhile, The Queen, who had been married to the Duke of Edinburgh for 73 years, said his death had “left a huge void in her life”. Plans are currently being drawn-up for the funeral on Saturday (17 April), which will include a service that is expected to be led by the Archbishop of Canterbury. The event will be attended by only 30 close members of the family owing to Coronavirus regulations in England.
