NEW DELHI, India (CWBN)_  India warned its Canadian High Commissioner on Friday that serious damage to diplomatic ties could take place based on Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s comments on the on-going farmers’ protests.

However, it appears that Trudeau remains steadfast on his stance. “Canada will always stand up for the right of peaceful protests anywhere around the world. And we are pleased to see moves towards de-escalation and dialogue,” he stated.

The incident in question regard a farmers’ protest currently taking place in India over a new farming law, which they say is against their best interests.

Trudeau earlier referred to the crackdown of the protests as concerning, and was rebuked by India, claiming that his comments were “ill-informed”.
