Typhoon Nanmadol transitions to low pressure system in Japan.

-

The extratropical cyclone travelled through the Japanese archipelago to the Pacific, leaving two people dead, and 115 injured.

It was reported through the Japanese Meteorological Agency that the powerful Nanmadol typhoon transitioned into a low pressure system after travelling through Japan’s northeastern Tohuku region. The agency continued to then warn people of harsh winds, high tides and landslides across western to northern Japan.

The storm was moving with an atmospheric pressure of 985 hectopascals early on Tuesday but was still packing maximum winds of 126 km per hour. Heavy rains are still expected in eastern and northern Japan according to weather officials. Rainfall could reach up to 120 mm in the 24 hours through Wednesday morning in central and eastern Japan, including Tokyo, and 100 mm in the northeast.

Nanmadol is the 14th typhoon to hit Japan this season. It is also considered to be one of the most powerful and dangerous ones yet, bringing with it extreme storms. Due to the heavy rains and unprecedented violent winds, many were left injured and in a state of peril in the Kyushu region.

A man found in a car that had been submerged in Miyazaki Prefecture, had died due to the storm, along with another person who had passed away due to this unforeseen, dangerous natural disaster. At least 115 people were severely injured as reported by local authorities.

According to the Kyushu Electrical Company, 350,000 homes within the region lost electricity which wasn’t restored all throughout Monday, continuing the power cut to Tuesday as well due to extreme weather conditions.

The typhoon however, has adopted a low pressure system after traveling across Japan through the Pacific, henceforth weakening the power of the storm, putting fewer regions at risk.
