UAE pumps investments into ‘food corridor’

New Delhi, India (CWBN)_ It has been announced that eight food processing centres will be built in Madhya Pradesh, India through investments provided by the United Arab Emirates under the USD 7 billion ‘food corridor’ project.

It has been confirmed by Under-Secretary for Food and Trade Affairs, Juma Al Kait that further investments will be made over the next three years, particularly with regard to supply chains, and developing agri-trading platforms, such as Agriota, which connect farmer with food companies in the UAE.

While the project is a bold step toward strengthening food security in the Gulf region, it is expected that the project would also support up to 2 million Indian, while creating 200,000 related jobs.

The Indian Project Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme is also projected to support the increase the sale of processed and manufactured goods, alongside India’s new farming laws that are focused on removing middlemen from the sale of produce.
