LONDON (CU)_The Russian Defence Attaché was summoned by the United Kingdom’s Ministry of Defence for the second time. It was in relation to the unprovoked invasion of Ukraine by Russian armed forces.

The Ministry said on Twitter that the second Permanent Under-Secretary Laurence Lee had protested “in the strongest terms” against these unjustified acts of violence that are being committed against innocent civilians and also reminded the DA regarding Russia’s obligations under the Geneva Convention. He went on to emphasise the fact that schools, hospitals and theatres are not legitimate military targets, the Ministry revealed. “He [Second Permanent Secretary] warned the UK will be collecting evidence of war crimes and repeated the UK’s demand for the Russian Federation to withdraw its forces immediately,” it said on Twitter.

Meanwhile, it is reported that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has expressed his desire to visit Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine which is currently under severe attack by Russian forces. According to the Daily Mail, the British leader has requested officials to assess the significance and value of such a visit, during which he intends to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “If you set aside the security concerns, which are considerable, the question is whether there is anything additional you could achieve by visiting in person, or whether it would just be a show of solidarity, and whether that is a sufficient goal in itself,” the news agency quoted an official source as saying.

The two leaders have already held discussions on Monday, when PM Johnson reaffirmed his plans to advance Ukraine’s interests at NATO and G7 meetings this week. He also stressed his government’s intention to continue to increase its military, diplomatic and economic support to the war-torn nation in order to bring this terrible conflict to an end.
