UK evacuates 2197 people from Sudan

Europe UK (Commonwealth Union) – As the conflict in Sudan continues between the army chief of Sudan Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Daglo, who controls the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, nations across the world are desperately attempting to evacuate their citizens. The crisis has shown signs of a possible refugee crisis in the region with the possibility of refugees moving to neighboring countries. Efforts to mediate between the 2 sides have been offered by Sudan’s Neighbors, South Sudan, and Egypt.  

The UK has evacuated 2197 individuals to safety from Sudan, in one of the most extensive airlifts in the world.

The British Government organized additional evacuation flights from Port Sudan recently which comes after an end of UK evacuation flights from an airfield, in close proximity to Khartoum.

Khartoum is the capital and largest city of Sudan, located in the northeastern region of Africa. The city has a rich history that dates back to ancient times and was a bustling metropolis prior to the conflict with a population of over 5 million people, which made it one of the largest cities in Africa.

During the weekend the total number of individuals evacuated stood at 2197. More flights are set to take place from Port Sudan this evening, to give backing to British nationals and others that consist of Sudanese doctors working in the National Health Service, UK.

The UK nationals have additionally played a role, in the UK that has assisted in the evacuation of 1087 individuals from other countries, such as the USA, Ireland, Netherlands, Canada, Germany together with Australia.

“As the focus turns to humanitarian and diplomatic efforts, we will continue to do all we can to press for a long-term ceasefire and an immediate end to the violence in Sudan,” said Foreign Secretary James Cleverly.

The UK along with many other nations has called for an end to the Conflict in Sudan.
