cover trip cancellations due to the following reasons:

  • A passenger who is ordered to quarantine or self-isolate. This covers those who are contacted by NHS Test and Trace to isolate but have not been diagnosed with Covid-19.
  • A travel ban imposed by the government due to Covid-19 infection.
  • Unavailability of the pre-booked accommodations owing to the harmful effects of Covid-19 on the nearby region.
  • Due to Covid19 restrictions, the FCDO is advising against all travel, or all but essential travel, to a destination within 28 days of departure, as long as the advice was not in effect at the time the trip or travel insurance were purchased.

Along with these insurance modifications, the plans will continue to cover the following:

  • Any emergency medical expenditures incurred as a result of a new Covid-19 diagnosis after the trip begins, including additional lodging and travel expenses if you are unable to return home as scheduled due to quarantine.
  • Cancellation in the event that the policyholder, a close relative, or a traveling companion testing positive to Covid-19 in the United Kingdom and is unable to begin their trip.
  • Shortening a journey due to a change in FCDO guidance while on the journey.
  • Travel to any place, provided that the FCDO does not advise against all travel.

Tom Bishop, Head of Travel Insurance at Direct Line and Churchill, discussed the recovery of the travel sector after the pandemic. He said, “As the world begins to reopen and the government relaxes Covid-19 travel restrictions, Direct Line and Churchill want to give customers back their freedom and allow greater choice when planning to travel. Our new approach aims to support the recovery of the travel industry and will give customers greater confidence to travel if they wish to, whilst offering the choice of cancelling or travelling where FCDO advice is against ‘all but essential’ travel.”
