UK manufacturers may reduce energy bills, enhance productivity with data

-

England (Commonwealth Union) – Energy bills have been on the minds of many Britons in past few months, with the financial crisis resulting in rising inflation rates. UK manufacturers will have the possibility of reducing energy bills, enhancing production and having a competitive advantage with the launch of bleeding-edge digital tools and technologies to make use of data science for their factories.

The AMRC (Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre) Data Cloud will pave the way for world-leading machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities at a fraction of the cost to bring in innovation in industrial processes. The EyUp Data Science Academy can provide the skills and knowledge producing these powerful new applications.

David Richards MBE, chair of the AMRC Digital Meet Manufacturing Commission and a technology entrepreneur stated that the AMRC Data Cloud and EyUp Data Science Academy is set to assist in handling challenges and bring in economic growth to issues currently faced by manufactures. “It is fitting we are launching these initiatives at Kelham Island Museum, which is a testament to Sheffield’s proud industrial past. In the 19th century, our city’s entrepreneurs pioneered the commercial use of the Bessemer converter to lead the world in steelmaking. We believe today’s industrialists can seize a similar opportunity by harnessing the power of new technology,” he said.

Professor Koen Lamberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Sheffield, stated that the AMRC Data Cloud gives manufacturers opportunities to produce actionable insights within their factories to lower energy bills, increase productivity being further competitive.

The academy is aimed at industry practitioners with certain knowledge of computer programming hoping to produce ‘bilingual’ graduates who can understand data science together with manufacturing. The course is set to commence in January and provide an overview of data science methods and applicability in manufacturing environments, needs for acquiring and using data in machine learning and experience of real-world instances using the AMRC Data Cloud.
