LONDON, United Kingdom (CWBN)_ UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson praised the scientists who found a COVID-19 vaccine which will allow the country to return to normal, but warned against over-optimism and stated that the public must continue to follow the rules. He made these comments at a Downing Street press conference on Wednesday (December 2). He also revealed that the vaccine will be administered to the highest risk categories by next week.

“We have been waiting and hoping for the day when the searchlights of science would pick out our invisible enemy and give us the power to stop that enemy from making us ill — and now the scientists have done it,” he said.

While cautioning the public against false hope, the PM also stated that the vaccine meant that things would definitely go back to the way they were before the pandemic. “We’re no longer resting on the mere hope that we can return to normal next year in the spring, but rather the sure and certain knowledge that we will succeed and together reclaim our lives and all the things about our lives that we love,” he said.

The UK has been the first nation to approve the COVID-19 vaccine manufactured by Pfizer/BioNTech. However, critics have expressed fears that the UK has approved the vaccine too soon, ignoring safety concerns.
